Northeastern University celebrated Commencement on Friday for the class of 2011. The ceremony was held at the home of the Boston Celtics and Bruins, Boston’s famous TD Garden. The arena was packed wall to wall with families and friends cheering on the graduating students as they crossed the stage to receive their degrees.
Click here to see a really cool time-lapse video of the 3,200 graduating seniors as they file into the TD Garden, and then see how the space is transformed back into the ice rink.
In addition to the speech from Notheastern’s President Joseph E. Aoun, seniors also listened to an address from Henri A. Termeer, the former Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Genzyme Corporation and a pioneer in developing and delivering treatments for rare genetic diseases. The student speaker this year was Sarah Tishler, a Presidential Global Scholar who received a triple major in International Affairs, Psychology and French. Sarah used her Presidential Global Scholarship earlier this year while on co-op in Switzerland at the Geneva Center for Security Policy. While there, she performed research in French and English in different fields related to international security.
Friday was also a big day for Northeastern’s Torch Scholars Program. Eleven graduates from Class One of Torch crossed the stage to receive their degrees. To learn more about Torch and to hear from this year’s graduates, I invite you to watch this video about Torch Class One here.
